Every trip that visits Northern Areas, whatever its length or style.

Two full days in the valley, with Attabad, Passu and the Karimabad forts.

The complete Hunza trip — the valley, the border pass and Naltar's coloured lakes.

Private vehicle, valley-view rooms and nobody else on the itinerary.

Shangrila, Shigar, Khaplu and a full day crossing Deosai to Sheosar Lake.

The same Skardu route in your own vehicle, paced for children and elders.

The classic short trip — Balakot, Shogran and the jeep up to Saif-ul-Malook.
"Northern areas" is how most people in Pakistan describe everything above Mansehra — Gilgit-Baltistan, the upper valleys of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir. It is not one place and the trips are not interchangeable, which is why this page exists: to help you work out which valley you actually want.
The short version. Naran and Swat are close, green and cheap, and right for three to four days. Kashmir's Neelum valley is four to six days and the best value in the country. Hunza is five to seven days and the one everybody means when they say they want to see the north. Skardu is seven days minimum and the most dramatic. Fairy Meadows needs four days and a willingness to walk. Deosai is a summer-only add-on to Skardu or Astore.
If you have never been north before, start with Naran or Swat, or go straight to Hunza with six days. If you have done Hunza and want the next thing, Skardu or Kashmir. If you want to work for the view, Fairy Meadows or Kumrat.
Naran or Swat if you have three or four days and want an easy introduction. Hunza if you have six days and want the trip everyone talks about. Both are good first trips for very different reasons.
May to September for the high valleys and passes. April for Hunza blossom. Late October for autumn colour. December to February for snow in Swat, Murree and lower Hunza. July and August are peak season and the most crowded.
A three-day Naran group trip and a seven-day Skardu private tour are separated by a factor of four. Every package page on this site shows a real per-person price with what it includes, and we do not advertise a headline figure that nothing actually sells for.
Yes, and it is the question we are asked most. We have a page on exactly this — seating, rooming, female coordinators on named departures, and a number you can call before booking rather than after.
A warm jacket regardless of the month, walking shoes with grip, sunscreen and sunglasses (the sun at altitude is fierce), any regular medication in your hand luggage, and enough cash for the whole trip. Full list on our travel tips page.
