Naran & Kaghan tours in Pakistan

Naran is the closest real mountain valley to Islamabad and Lahore, which is exactly why it is the busiest. Seven hours of driving puts you at 2,409 m beside the Kunhar river, and an hour of jeep track beyond that puts you at Saif-ul-Malook, one of the genuinely famous lakes in Pakistan.

A Naran trip is short by design. Three days covers Balakot, Shogran and Saif-ul-Malook. Four days adds Babusar Top at 4,173 m and Lulusar Lake, which is the stretch most people remember afterwards. Ansoo Lake and Dudipatsar are day hikes for fit walkers and need their own day.

Two things to plan around. The valley road above Naran opens with the snowmelt — Babusar usually in late June — and closes again from September. And Naran at the weekend in July is genuinely crowded, so if your dates are flexible, travel midweek.

What you see on a Naran & Kaghan trip

  • Saif-ul-Malook Lake, reached by jeep from Naran
  • Babusar Top at 4,173 m
  • Lulusar Lake
  • Shogran and the Siri Paye meadows
  • Dudipatsar Lake — a full-day trek
  • Ansoo Lake — a demanding day hike
  • The Kunhar river through Balakot, Kaghan and Batakundi

Naran & Kaghan: what to know before you book

Is 3 days enough for Naran?

Yes, for Naran and Saif-ul-Malook. Three days does not include Babusar Top — that needs four. If Babusar is the picture you have in your head, book the four-day trip.

When does Babusar Top open?

Usually late June, sometimes early July, and it closes again with the first serious snow in September or October. The exact date is decided by the snow, not the calendar. We confirm status before every departure.

Do I need a jeep for Saif-ul-Malook?

Yes. The track from Naran is about 9 km of rough jeep road and coasters cannot do it. The jeep charge is separate on most operators' pricing — on ours it is included and stated on the package page.

Is Naran good for families with small children?

Very. It is the shortest drive of any northern trip, the altitude is moderate, and there is plenty to do without walking far. The Saif-ul-Malook jeep track is bumpy but short.

How cold does it get?

Naran is cool even in July — 10–20 °C in the day and single digits at night. Babusar Top can be near freezing with wind at any time of year. Bring a proper jacket regardless of the month.
